Protect Tigers. Support the Big Cat Public Safety Act.

UPDATE: The Big Cat Public Safety Act has garnered strong bipartisan support in both the House and Senate. Recently, the House of Representatives passed the bill, and it now faces a tougher battle in the Senate.

There are around 5,000 captive tigers here in the US. We must ensure laws are in place to prevent these animals from ending up in the illegal trade in tiger parts and products that remains a primary threat to wild tigers. With 2022 being the Year of the Tiger on the Chinese calendar, it's time that we finally see the US Government act on this longstanding conservation issue.

Ask your Members of Congress to cosponsor the Big Cat Public Safety Act, which would help ensure that the US does its part in the fight against illegal tiger trade.

Additional Senate cosponsors will help ensure that the bill gets a vote and becomes law. If your senator has already co-sponsored the bill, you will not be able to send them this message. Not sure if your senator(s) are cosponsors already? Check the list of current cosponsors for their name. [SENATE]

This action is only open to US residents. Messages directly sent to Congress require all information fields to be filled out. We encourage you to personalize your message below, and let your Members of Congress know why this issue is important to you.

Dear your U.S. representative and your U.S. senators,

For over a decade, the US government has demonstrated strong bipartisan leadership to tackle illegal wildlife trafficking. However, the US is also home to around 5,000 captive tigers—and there is little accounting for these animals, including who owns them, when they're sold and traded, or what happens to their valuable parts when they die. For these reasons, the US is unable to ensure that its tiger population isn't feeding an illegal trade that remains the primary threat to tigers remaining in the wild, of which only around 4,000 remain throughout all of Asia.

This is why I am asking you to cosponsor the Big Cat Public Safety Act, introduced by Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Susan Collins (R-ME), Tom Carper (D-DE), and Richard Burr (R-NC)(S. 1210). This bipartisan legislation will go a long way towards ensuring that the US minimizes its risk of contributing to the illegal trade in tiger parts and products. The bill also helps ensure the welfare of these animals and protects public safety from the threats posed by private ownership of big cats. It is currently sponsored by 45 Senators and over 250 Members in the House.

Please join your colleagues in cosponsoring the Big Cat Public Safety Act and send a message that the US continues to stand strong in its commitment to tiger conservation and its fight against wildlife crime, and holds itself to the same standards it expects of other countries.
