Tell your Senators: Support the Arctic Refuge Protection Act (S. 282)

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is home to some of the planet's most spectacular wildlife. It's the Porcupine caribou's calving and nursery grounds and a critical denning habitat for the threatened Southern Beaufort Sea polar bear. We must keep oil and gas drilling out of this area.

Ask your Senator to cosponsor the Arctic Refuge Protection Act and help permanently protect the Arctic Refuge today. This action is only open to US residents. Check to see if your Senator(s) is already a cosponsor.

Dear your U.S. senators,

I am writing to ask you to cosponsor S. 282, the Arctic Refuge Protection Act. This legislation was introduced by Senator Ed Markey (MA) and would designate the Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as wilderness under the National Wilderness Preservation System—permanently protecting it from oil and gas development.

In 2017, Congress approved opening the Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas development despite decades of widespread public support for protecting the Arctic Refuge's Coastal Plain from oil and gas activities.

Development in the Refuge poses an intolerable risk to one of our nation's greatest natural resources. Alaska Native communities in and around the Refuge rely on the Porcupine caribou, who use the Coastal Plain as its calving and nursing grounds, for subsistence needs. Further, the Coastal Plain provides critical denning habitat for the threatened Southern Beaufort Sea subpopulation of polar bears.

This action must be reversed.

Please cosponsor the Arctic Refuge Protection Act and help protect the Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from the destructive impacts that future oil and gas development would bring to the region.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
