Help prevent illegally deforested products from entering US markets

Most of the global deforestation by commercial agriculture is illegal—fueling corruption, criminality, and violations of worker and community rights. The US must take steps to protect forests and communities by stopping illegal deforestation. The FOREST Act (S. 2950/H.R.5508) introduced in both chambers of Congress would require companies to trace where products come from and confirm that they are legally produced.

This action is only open to US residents. Messages directly sent to Congress require all information fields to be filled out. We encourage you to personalize your message below, and let your representative know why this issue is important to you.

Dear your U.S. representative, your U.S. senators,

The Amazon rain forest is at a tipping point beyond which it may never recover. The expansion of commercial agriculture for soy, cattle, and palm oil drives global deforestation. And more than two-thirds of this deforestation is illegal, fueling corruption, criminality, and violations of worker and community rights and undermining businesses that play by the rules.

As a major importer of these products, the US must act now to protect forests and communities and help stop illegal deforestation.

Please cosponsor the bipartisan FOREST Act (S. 2950/H.R.5508) to help protect forests and communities and remove illegal deforestation from the products we consume every day.

By requiring importers of high deforestation-risk commodities to trace where their products come from and confirm they are legally produced, this bill will help ensure the products American consumers buy are not contributing to the destruction of forests, human rights abuses, and other criminal activity.

Your cosponsorship of the FOREST Act is important to me as your constituent. Deforestation and forest degradation are root causes of some of the most pressing threats to our planet: biodiversity decline, climate change, zoonotic disease outbreaks, and tropical wildfires. This bill is a key step to curb global emissions, conserve the world's forests and other natural ecosystems, and remove crimes and abuse from the food we eat and the products we consume.

Sincerely,
