Stop the loss of our iconic grasslands & wildlife

America's iconic grasslands are one of the fastest disappearing ecosystems on our planet. These once-vast landscapes are critical for the food we eat, rural economies, carbon sequestration, and wildlife habitat. WWF has worked for two decades in the Northern Great Plains alongside Native nations and ranchers to conserve our grasslands and wildlife. We need your help to call on Senators to act now.

Additional Senate cosponsors will help ensure that the bill gets a vote and becomes law. If your senator has already co-sponsored the bill, you will not be able to send them this message. Not sure if your senator(s) are cosponsors already? Check the list of current cosponsors for their name. [SENATE]

The North American Grasslands Conservation Act will create a landmark voluntary program to conserve and restore threatened grassland ecosystems.

This action is only open to US residents. Messages directly sent to Congress require all information fields to be filled out. We encourage you to personalize your message below, and let your representative know why this issue is important to you.

Dear

your U.S. senators
,

America's grasslands – our prairies, savannas, glades, sage lands – are the fastest disappearing ecosystems on our planet. Pressure to convert grasslands for agriculture or other uses contributed to the loss of some 2.6 million acres across the US and Canadian portions of the Great Plains from 2018-2019 alone. Wildlife who live in grasslands have America's steepest population declines.

Congress must act to halt the loss of our grasslands and restore these vibrant places for future generations.

I urge you to cosponsor the North American Grasslands Conservation Act to conserve and restore threatened grassland ecosystems.

Healthy grasslands are vital for rural communities and Native nations, addressing climate change, and wildlife habitat. Modeled on the popular and effective North American Wetlands Conservation Act, this bill will provide critical new resources to complement state and federal efforts.

The Grasslands Act would enable new flexible and voluntary conservation activities, to:

1) curtail the loss of native grasslands;
2) improve grassland health and management;
3) support rancher stewards and Native nations partners; and
4) improve biodiversity and habitat for grassland birds, pollinators, and other wildlife.

The North American Grassland Conservation Act is one of the most significant steps that Congress can take for grassland conservation. I'm counting on you to cosponsor this legislation.

Sincerely,
