Tell Congress to Prioritize Climate Action

Our climate is changing around us faster than predicted, but it's not too late to change course. To limit warming to 1.5° C, we must take swift action—including building a more comprehensive climate policy. Ask your Member of Congress to make strong climate action a priority.

Dear your U.S. representative,

As my representative, I ask that you encourage Congress to act with urgency in three areas to advance climate action:

  • 1. Continue to hold formal hearings on the latest climate science and establish a plan for how to respond. This past February, the Natural Resources Committee hosted the first House hearing on climate change in a decade. Since then, many other House and Senate Committees have followed suit and have held hearings to explore the impacts of a warming climate. According to the Fourth National Climate Assessment and the 2018 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, we are running out of time to address the climate crisis. The time to act is now.

  • 2. Champion and support bills that help to transition the United States to a 100 percent clean energy economy and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 by prioritizing incentives for climate-friendly infrastructure, creating well-paying clean jobs, increasing funding for renewable energy research and deployment, and supporting sustainable land use practices and land conservation.

  • 3. Foster a robust, public debate on designing a long-term climate policy for America anchored with a strong carbon price. House members can help illuminate the relative costs, benefits and transformational impact of different policy tools—from a regulatory system to a carbon fee, cap and trade, and investment in innovation.

Sincerely,
