About the Javan Rhino
The Javan rhino is one of the most threatened of WWF’s flagship species with as few as 40 remaining in Ujung Kulon National Park. Plus, WWF and the International Rhino Foundation (IRF) confirmed the extinction of the Javan rhinoceros in Vietnam on October 25, 2011.
WWF is working with the government, the International Rhino Foundation, the Indonesian Rhino Foundation, the Asian Rhino Project, the IUCN/SSC Rhino Specialist Group and local communities to protect these animals from poaching, to monitor the population, and establish a second population through translocation.
