What is the Conservation Action Network?

The Conservation Action Network (CAN) is an electronic advocacy network that enables you to obtain concise information and take action quickly and easily on important issues such as endangered species, global warming, forest protection, fisheries conservation, and many others. You can communicate with the president, members of Congress, state legislators, newspaper editors, corporations, foreign government leaders, and international agencies. Sign up for the Conservation Action Network.

Why should I participate in the Conservation Action Network?

Our living planet needs your help! By participating in the Conservation Action Network you will be playing an important role in protecting the Earth from the enormous threats it faces. Decisions made today will have far-reaching effects on which plants and animals survive into the future. Yet decision makers are not hearing enough voices calling for protection of the natural systems on which all life depends. As a result, important laws and programs are at risk. And not enough consumers are using their enormous power to reduce environmental impact and change business behaviors.

How does the Conservation Action Network work?

You participate in the Conservation Action Network from your desktop. With your authorization, the Conservation Action Network will send emails or faxes on your behalf to decision makers at no cost to you. You can edit your letter and/or easily print it out and mail it, greatly increasing your impact.  If you sign up for the Conservation Action Network, we will notify you via email when important decisions are about to be made about the conservation of wildlife and wild spaces.

How do I take action?

Review the list of current campaigns and click on the ones that interest and inspire you. You'll be given background information about the issue and why your help is needed. You can send a pre-written letter or add your own thoughts. We strongly encourage you to edit your messages because personalized messages carry much greater weight with decision makers. To have the greatest impact of all, follow the directions to print out and mail your personalized letters (if there's time to do so before the decision makers(s) act).

If you log in to the Conservation Action Network Web site, you'll gain access to personalized Web pages that will allow you to track which actions you have and have not yet taken. If you sign up to receive action alerts, you'll be able to click on the link in the alerts and will be automatically logged in to the Web site and taken to the action pages.

Will I receive mail as a result of becoming a member of WWF through my participation in the Conservation Action Network?

No, you will only receive email on behalf of the Conservation Action Network. (However, you may receive mail as a result of joining WWF through other means.)

What if I have forgotten my password?

If you have forgotten your password, go to our automatic password reminder.

How can I change my password or my contact information?

Visit your Supporter Center to change any of your information or preferences.

What does it cost to participate in the Conservation Action Network?

It's free.

What is the privacy policy?

Read our Privacy Policy.

How often will you send me email action alerts?

If you enroll in the Conservation Action Network, we will send you approximately three email alerts per month if you live in the United States. Activists living outside the United States will likely receive one alert every few months. At times, issues will arise that will require more action from Conservation Action Network activists, and the alerts will arrive more frequently. You need only take the actions you want.

What sorts of issues does the Conservation Action Network take action on?

We take action on issues relating to the conservation of wildlife and wildlands. For example, in the past Conservation Action Network activists helped:

  • stop the Russians from the commercial hunting of beluga whales,
  • promote legislation to protect the Galapagos Islands,
  • secure adequate funding for large-scale restoration of the Florida Everglades, and
  • pass the Rhino and Tiger Product Labeling bill, which has strengthened protection of endangered tigers and rhinos.

How can my friends and colleagues join the Conservation Action Network?

Please encourage others who care about endangered species and wild places to participate in the Conservation Action Network.

How can I remove myself from the Conservation Action Network?

Please click the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of your next Conservation Action Network email.
