What's the best way to celebrate a birthday? Doing what you most enjoy for the things you most care about.
Objective: To run 24 hours on a running track and collect donations with WWF to protect our forests.
Imagine a future without natural areas for recreational outdoor sports. With no forests, we would otherwise only be able to exercise inside urban areas. I will try to recreate this dreadful scenario by running 24 hours non-stop around a 400 meters track. The goal? To raise awareness of the importance of forest ecosystem services, including the cultural services of using these extraordinary natural areas for recreational purposes.
Why?
- Because the forests need our support: Every single minute tropical forests lose an area equivalent to 30 soccer fields due to agriculture and illegal logging. Human impacts have already led to the loss of around 40% of all the forests in the world. Forests provide valuable ecosystem services that benefit humanity and every other single life form. Forests are carbon sinks and therefore play a critical role for the mitigation of climate change by absorbing CO2 emissions. Forest ecosystems must be preserved and managed sustainably, addressing threats such as deforestation, and supporting WWF’s global conservation efforts.
- Because every human action has an environmental impact on the world: We are all responsible for the fate of mountains, forests, lakes, and every natural landscape. We need to raise our voice and change our habits to improve our relationship with our natural playground. Join me and commit to the Outdoor Friendly Pledge to lead a sustainable way of life, in harmony with the environment.
- Because we need to realize what our body and mind are capable of: Our bodies are perfect machines and our minds are ideal operating systems. Let’s acknowledge this and realize the remarkable physical and intellectual feats we can achieve. While the body only needs exercise and repetition to enhance endurance, the mind only needs to be fully conscious of its surroundings and you will be able to overcome any imaginable obstacle. Train your body and your mind to take control.
How to support? Join the cause and donate now! Any contribution is extremely helpful. All of the funds raised will go directly toward supporting WWF's global conservation efforts. Also, take the leap and make the commitment to lead a sustainable way of life. Every single action can make a difference!
When will the challenge take place? The 30th of November I will turn 29 years old. The 24-hour challenge will begin at 12PM (midday) on Sunday, November 29th, and end at 12PM on Monday, November 30th. (It will be broadcasted in real-time via Garmin LiveTrack)
Where? Freising, Germany
