Colin Smith's 2021 NYC Marathon - WWF Fundraiser
I am raising money for the World Wildlife Fund by running in the TCS New York City Marathon on November 7, 2021. Deforestation, climate change, water scarcity, and illegal wildlife trade. These are some of the threats facing our planet today—and no one person or group can tackle them alone.
I have always enjoyed putting challenges in front of myself as a way to give my life purpose and discover the limits of my abilities. I ran my first half marathon in December of 2020. I ran my first marathon in April of 2021. I completed an Olympic triathlon in July of 2021. All of these were incredible experiences and taught me a lot about myself. However, I did them all for myself with my own selfish motivations in mind.
In the summer of 2020, I went on a trip to Utah with some of my best friends. We spent the time travelling, hiking, and adventuring through some of the most unique and incredible ecosystems in the world. Between the time away from screens, the awesome landscapes, the wildlife, and the ridiculous humor that comes from being stuck in a car for hours, this trip is easily the best part of my year. This trip has become an annual tradition for us and something I look forward to as soon as it’s done. More importantly, it’s made me realize how much we take nature and all that comes with it for granted.
I won’t lie and say I’m doing this exclusively on behalf of conservation awareness and funding. Realistically I would run this with or without a good cause because running the NYC marathon has been a dream of mine. However, the chance to pursue what I love while making a positive impact on the world is an opportunity that I can’t pass up. I would be honored if you would join me. Your donation today will help make it possible to protect the future of nature.
Thank you for giving whatever you can, and 100% of your donation will go to charity.
