Hi! As you probably guessed already, I am running the 2022 Chicago Marathon for the World Wildlife Fund!
You may be wondering about my thought process as I chose to (A) run a marathon, and (B) run it for WWF. Let's start with A: running a marathon has been on my bucket list for a little while now, and this year all the cards fell into place. At the time of writing this I have a solid mileage base from which to build upon, and an established running schedule to use for training. Another one of the main motivations to run Chicago this year is that I have a handful of friends running the marathon and I'm not sure how many more chances like this I'll get! As for B: if I am going to be training, talking about training, racing, and talking about racing for the next year, I feel I should try to make the most of all that time by making it about something bigger than me. Of all the wonderful charities to choose from, WWF stood out to me as a pioneer in the world of environmental conservation and climate change activism (more about them below). If you've read this far already, I encourage you to give whatever you can in support of WWF and me in my silly decision to run for a really long time.
Here's a quick list of some of the key environmental issues that WWF helps combat. Learn more at www.worldwildlife.org
- Deforestation
- Climate Change
- Water Scarcity
- Illegal Wildlife Trade
Barring any fun and exciting COVID changes, the Marathon is scheduled for October 9th, feel free to follow me on Strava to see if I'll be ready in time:)
