This 5K Onesie Run initiative started The Young Family's love for nature and animals. They have always felt deeply connected to the wilderness and often felt closer to animals than their peers. Their core values have always been to advocate for those without the ability or strength to do so.
"My family and I are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Every day in December, our family tries to focus more deeply on how to #LightTheWorld as Christ would have; this could be as simple as random acts of kindness, a random note, a phone call to a loved one, or could be something more extravagant - it's personal for each of us.
We take a moment to reflect that no matter how small we are, we are all capable of making the world a better place. We think of our individual, unique ways that we can play our part and contribute to bettering our families, our friend circles, our communities, and the world! We started this onesie run to give tribute to the animals that we love so dearly, and it has been a beautiful memory and a new tradition in our home and we would like to share this with you. Our heart aches for how thoughtless humanity can be while destroying their homes and the lack of harmony among us. We often try and remove garbage and reduce our footprint; however, we know that the World Wild Life Fund dedicates their entire purpose to the preservation and enhancement of life at a much grander scale than we can do alone.
We love that the World Wild Life Fund actively focuses on the animals and their environment directly and the proceeds are managed righteously. If we can care about our bodies through running, walking, and jogging while raising awareness of the animals we are running on behalf of, if that's our contribution, we would be honoured to continue to try and make a difference" (S. Young, 2022).
Deforestation, climate change, water scarcity, and illegal wildlife trade. These are some of the threats facing our planet today—and no one person or group can tackle them alone.
But if we work together, we can take on anything.
We can protect the very things that keep us alive: our forests, our oceans, our fresh water, our wildlife, our energy supply, and our food supply.
Please join us in this important work by donating today or joining our team to run with us!
Thank you for giving what you can and helping us #LightTheWorld too.
