Funding the Future

"When they are gone, when every last life has been stolen, how will you remember them? Extinction is forever."

Imagine this: a world where the ocean is completely barren, a massive water domain once inhabited by thousands of different fish, whales, and coral, now devoid of any life forms with the exception of a few deep sea creatures, too far away to be touched by the poisonous hand of humans; a world where elephants, tigers, rhinos, and giraffes are animals that our future generations can only ever have the chance of seeing through pictures, through rapidly fading memories of what we recall them to have looked like.

Imagine yourself in the shoes of a young boy or girl, 100 or so years from now, wishing that more efforts were made in prior years to protect the animals that are now a rarity, when reading about monkeys and zebras in storybooks confuse you because you don't know what they are. Seem impossible? Not as much as you might think. 

There are currently 41,415 animal species faced with endangerment, 16,306 of which confront extinction. Over the course of the past 100 years, over 500 animal species have been wiped off the face of the planet, decimated at our hands.

Deforestation of natural habitats to build homes for humans and create paper products, over exploitation through hunting and overfishing to keep up with our demands for seafood and products from the meat industry, and climate change, caused by our excessive carbon dioxide output, are the biggest reasons for animal species to suffer a fatal decline in their population.

Soon, perhaps even within the course of this year, many animal species will take their last breath on earth and pass, uncared for and not given a fair chance to survive. However, there is still hope for the lives not yet lost.

The WWF is working towards the conservation for hundreds of different species, towards research and implementing preventative measures to protect our precious wildlife. By donating, you can not only help support their advancements, but also support the future generations to inhabit this earth, allowing them to be able to experience the same marvellous animals that we have been so greatly blessed to see for ourselves.
