CJH Axolotl Donation Page

Axolotls...I was first drawn to them because they look like they belong in a science fiction movie...they are just so crazy cool! Axolotls, also known as "walking fish" are a critically endangered species found in Lake Xochimilco in Mexico. They are currently a critically endangered species due to industrial water pollution and invasive species like perch and tilapia. They are of special interest to scientists, because they can regrow their body parts!

I have 3 adult axolotls for students to admire in my 6th grade classroom. One day, after a long weekend, I came into my classroom and discovered much to my surprise 400 axolotl eggs in the tank--ooops!. I didn't realize what I had in the tank! Out of that group of 400 axolotls, 200 have survived so far. My 6th grade students have used them in a variety of scientific inquiry activities. There is a dedicated Axolotl Care Club of 15+ "expert" students that care for them each day. However, with the school year coming to a close, and with them quickly gaining in size, it is time for them to find homes and spread the wonder! Thank you for donating to this page! World Wildlife Fund is well-known for preserving endangered species around the globe. Since the axolotl is also endangered, we thought it would be a perfect-fit fundraiser.

Here's how it works.

You make a donation to WWF on this page. You must donate a minimum $10 donation per axolotl. For example, your minimum donation if you want 3 axolotls would be $30. Of course, you can always donate more! Our total goal is to raise $1000 for World Wildlife Fund.  Once you have donated, please make sure to include:

1-Your student's first and last name

2-Student grade level

3-Student's 1st period teacher name

4-How many axolotls you wish to take

Once you pay, you simply show up on a Friday afternoon at 2:45pm, I will check this donation page, and you will pick out your choice of axolotl (there are 3 different varieties). We will send it home with you in a small container with lid. You can NOT take the axolotls on the bus, so students must have a pickup arranged.

If you would prefer to bring cash, you are welcome to do so. In that case, bring the exact amount you are donating (Min. $10 for 1) on any Friday afternoon from 2:45pm-3:45pm, and select/take home your axolotl.

We have loved taking care of these axolotl babies and know that you will love watching them grow just as much as we have!

Students have received an axolotl care instruction sheet through their CJH Science class.
